A Forever Home For Clark Part One
Hi it's me Clark again. Last time I told you the story of how Mommy Deb and the Pet People took care of me and tried very hard to find me a "Forever Home" It wasn't easy, not because I am not a good dog but some people don't like Dobermans because they think we are mean or scary. Or it might have been because I don't like being in my crate and it would show when we were at the store.
One day we were at an adoption event and a man in a floppy hat and a nice lady came by my crate. The doggie they had come to see had been adopted out (lucky dog) and they were just walking around to see those of us that were left. I sat up and tried to look really happy but the nice lady said she didn't like Dobermans so they walked by me. I was sad and laid down and stared over at the kitty display. A little while later they came back by my crate again. This time the man in the floppy hat asked if they could get me out of my crate and "socialize" me. I am not sure what it meant to "socialize" me all I knew is that I was getting taken out of my crate!!! I was so excited that I started to wiggle all over the place. The lady laughed and the man in the floppy hat laughed too. They got me out of my crate and I went over to the man and I stood really close to him and he started to pet me all up. It was soooooooooo nice. I started to lean up against the mans leg to show him that I liked him The man and the lady sat on the floor and I crawled up in the mans lap and just layed there as he petted me. I was so happy. The lady came over and petted me too. This was a good sign right ? They both seemed to like me. One of the nice Pet People went away and came back with treats for me and I showed them how pretty I could sit and I got a treat. I was having a wonderful time. The man and lady stayed with me a long time.
After a while the man in the floppy hat and the nice lady decided to see how I did if we took a walk. So we walked around the store for a little bit. That was fun. There were fish and birds and rabbits for me to look at. And lots of new things for me to smell. Sometimes I got really excited and I tried to run a head to see what was next and the man reminded me I need to stay with them. We took a long walk around the store and then went back to where the Pet People and the crates were. The man and the nice lady seemed like they didn't want to leave me and I know that I didn't want them to leave me. The man sat down on the floor again and I crawled up into his lap and put my head on his shoulder. I didn't want them to leave me there. After a bit the Pet People said that I might have to go outside to go potty and maybe the man in the floppy hat and the nice lady would like to take me. I was all happy when they said "yes" so we went outside. I went up to the first tree we came to and I immediately went potty. When I turned around Mommy Deb was outside with us too. That was fun. We went for a walk around the parking lot and Mommy Deb was talking to the nice lady and man in the floppy hat about me. I heard Mommy Deb saying all sorts of nice things about me to them. The man and lady were laughing and petting me the whole time. It was nice. They seemed to like me and I know I liked them. We went back inside and walked around the store some more. One of the Pet People named Vickie came up to the nice lady and man in the floppy hat and said something about "Fostering" me for a while. I was getting excited, maybe they were going to take me home with them ! But then Vickie took my leash and led me away from the nice lady and man in the floppy hat. I was sad and I didn't want to leave them and I tried to go back to the man and lady but Vickie said it was time for me to go back to my crate. I went back to my crate and was quiet for the rest of the afternoon. I didn't understand. They seemed to like me and I liked them but they left me with the Pet People. Maybe I had done something wrong. Mommy Deb took me home and I tried to be a good boy. Maybe I wasn't good enough for the people and they didn't like me after all.
A few days later Mommy Deb said we were going on a trip. I was going to a new foster home for a little while and maybe if everything went well I would be staying there forever. I didn't understand. I met nice people that seemed to like me and who I liked but they left me to stay with Mommy Deb and now I was going to a new house ? I was confused. Mommy Deb put me in the van with my crate and we took off. We got to a yellow house in a town called "Archbold" and Mommy Deb took my crate out of the van and got me out of the van and we went to the door. Mommy Deb knocked on the door and the person who opened it was the man in the floppy hat ! I was all excited. I liked the man in the floppy hat and wondered if the nice lady was there too. She was ! She was standing behind the man. We went into the house and the nice lady and the man in the floppy hat began to show me around. They already had dog bowls for me and they showed me the toys that they had for me too. Mommy Deb, the nice lady and man in the floppy hat sat on the floor and I wandered around to all of them. They seemed to be talking about me. I went to the man and he petted me and I went to the lady and she petted me and I went to Mommy Deb and she petted me. It was nice After a little while Mommy Deb got up and went to the back of the house and was gone. I went to look for her and I couldn't find her. I looked in all the rooms I could see and she wasn't there. I was a little sad and even a little scared. The man and lady were nice but I really didn't know them. Where were Angus and Daphne and the cats ? Where did Mommy Deb go ? Was this to be my new home forever ? Would I ever see them again ?
The man in the floppy hat and the nice lady told me that this was going to be my house for a while and if everything worked out I would be staying with them forever. "Forever"? This was going to be my "Forever Home" ? I was confused but happy at the same time. Where was Mommy Deb ? The man and lady were nice and they took me for a long walk. There were all sorts of new things for me to see and new things for me to smell. It was fun exploring. We went to a big park with bunnies and squirels in to for me to chase. The man and the lady were very nice to me and laughing as I ran around the park with them. I kept pulling on my leash and trying so hard to run and see everything I could. The man wasn't really happy with the way I was pulling but I was just so excited I couldn't stop. We left the park and went back to the yellow house. The man and lady said that we were "Home". "Home" ? This was my new home for good? This wasn't Mommy Deb's house. We went in the door and I looked around for Mommy Deb some more. The lady tried to get me to play with a toy with her. All I wanted to do was look out the front door and out the windows. The man and the lady let me do that. They put some food in the bowl in the kitchen that they said was mine. I didn't want anything to eat though. I did drink some water and went back to looking out the window. Then it was time for bed. The man in the floppy hat put my crate together and the nice lady put in a soft blanket for me. It smelled like the man and the lady. Then the nice lady put a toy dog in my crate and had me get into the crate. The door was locked, they gave me a treat, put a light in the switch above the crate and they went to bed. I cried for a minute and then fell asleep. It had been a long night and I was tired.
That's all for now ! Please come back and hear the next part of my big adventure and to see if I have found my "Forever Home"
Take care

Clark Dog Lost and Found Chapter 2
Clark and the Pet People
Hi it’s me again. Hope you enjoyed reading about how I was lost and then found. This story is about my time with my foster family and how my Mommy Deb and the Pet People tried very hard to find me a "Forever Home"
I was picked up from the vet on February 12th. Remember I told you last time that "Vets" are special doctors that take care of animals. The vet said I was a good boy and needed lots of good food, water and most important, lots of love. I wasn’t sick and didn’t have anything inside me that could make any of my foster mommy Deb’s pets sick. Yeah ! I did have a little bit of surgery and was a little bit tired from it but was anxious to get to me new home. Opps I’ll bet you are wondering what a "foster family" is. A foster family is a wonderful thing. It means that someone loves animals enough to want to help lost doggies and kitties find forever homes and lets them stay with them until they find one. Another word for foster would be "helper" or even "angel".
I went home with Mommy Deb and met her two other dogs, Angus and Daphne and her two cats. I was tired and a little scared and it took me a few days to see where I fit in with this new family. Angus is bigger than me, Daphne is smaller and the cats are smaller too. I got along well with the other dogs. Angus and I would wrestle and Daphne and I would play with Mommy Debs yarn balls. I would stare at the cats for a while hoping that they would move and when they did I would chase them around. It was fun for me but not always for them or Mommy Debs furniture! Sometimes Mommy Deb would have puppies there too. They were lots of fun to run around with and tear up toys with. Sometimes it would look like it was snowing inside because we had torn up a stuffed animal and the stuffing would go flying everywhere! That was so much fun. Until Mommy Deb saw it and had to clean the mess up.
The first week I was at Mommy Debs I was put outside to go potty and I saw something that looked very interesting and ran after it and jumped the fence. It wasn’t a very high fence and I really wanted the bunny or squirrel or whatever it was. Mommy Deb went to let me in the house and I was no where to be found. It was a really cold and snowy night. Fortunately for me because of the cold there were not a lot of cars out on the streets so I didn’t have to worry about that. Mommy Deb was really really worried about me and got all dressed in her warm clothes to try to find me. She called and looked but didn’t find me. Mommy Deb was very upset when she couldn’t find me and started to let the other Pet People know that I was missing in case they heard of a really handsome black dog that was running around lost. Then I showed up at the back patio door wagging my tail like nothing had happened. I am sure that mom was really glad to see me cuz I got lots of hugs but then again she wasn’t happy I had jumped the fence and I got a good talking to. I could no longer go outside unless I was on a leash or on a tie out. Rats that ended the really good hunting for me on a regular basis but I would manager to sneak out and try if Mommy wasn’t looking. I aways managed to find my way home though.
As the days went on I grew stronger thanks to all the good care and good food Mommy Deb was giving me and the treats too. Of course I got quite a reputaion for what Mommy called "counter surfing" Not sure what that is. I am a dog, I don’t surf. All I know is that Mommy Deb would leave really yummy treats on the edge of the counter and of course I thought that they were for me. Afert all, I am a special dog and thought that I was supposed to get them all. Who knew I was supposed to share ? I also grew more comfortable with where I was living and I had a routine I got into. I would walk the same path: front door to the bathroom door to the family room door and then the bay window. Round and round I would go until it seemed I was going to wear a path in the carpet. Not sure that would have been appreciated.
Now that I was getting stronger the big important thing was to find me my new "Forever Family". Mommy Deb worked very hard with me to make sure that I knew how to make a good impression on people so they would like me and take me home with them. I would practice how to "Sit" and be calm while getting in and out of my dog crate. I didn’t like getting in the crate but boy did I like getting out of it ! I also liked going outside and I had to learn to sit quite to get my tie out on and off. When I get excited I get really excited. I bounce up and down and wiggle all over the place. It makes people laugh when I do that. I was learning how to not jump up on people but that is hard. I really like people and want them to know it so I jump up to say "Hello". I never did it hard enough to knock anyone down but I guess some people don’t like it when you do that. Go figure. Mommy Deb would play games with me and the other dogs. Tug of War was a favorite. Mommy Deb would win and I would have to sit to get the toy back. Mommy would take me for walks and I would pull very hard and try to run really fast because it was fun being outside; so many birds and bunnies for me to chase. I am trying to learn to not pull so hard but it hasn’t been easy. I also like to get up on the couch and lay my head on the big arm watch the world go by and at night I curl up very small on it to sleep.
It came time for me to see the Pet People again and hopefully find my new "Forever Family". We would go to things called "Adoption Events" where people would come and see dogs like me that needed "Forever Homes" Mommy Deb would take me in the car and sometimes Daphne or Angus would come along for company. We would go to a big store with lots of people and other animals there. It was bright and noisey and sometimes I was scared. There would be a row of crates for us doggies to stay in so people could come and see us. If someone thought I looked like a dog they would like maybe they would take me home with them. I don’t like being in my crate. I really don’t like being in my crate in a big, noisey, bright store with other dogs around me that are barking loudly. So sometimes I might not have made a good impression because I might not have looked happy or I was barking. Lots of people came and other dogs were taken out of their crates and played with but no one took me out of my crate to play with me. Many of those doggies found forever homes but not me. This happened a whole bunch of times and I was sad. Part of it may have been that I am mostly Doberman and many people think that Dobermans are mean dogs. But if you could look at my face you would see that I am not mean. (Actually I am a bit of a wimp. But please don’t tell anyone that. Thunderstorms scare me and I so do not like getting rained on. That is our secret right ?) I would sit in my crate and try to look really nice and friendly and happy but it got hard after a while. I love to be petted and sit in peoples laps. Please don’t get me wrong. I loved being at Mommy Deb’s house and she was so great to me but I wanted a "Forever Mommy and Daddy".
Because I was with Mommy Deb for so long I got to know the Pet People really well. They all liked me and were all super nice to me and I liked them but they weren’t my "Forever Family". I know that they were all hoping that someone would take me home with them for always. It wasn’t easy for me to get my hopes up and then be let down at the adoption events. The Pet People were feeling bad for me too. I know they did because I heard them say so. Someday a family would come and take me home with them. I just know that they will !
Then one day a man in a floppy hat and a nice lady came to the adoption event. I didn’t know it at the time but they had come to see another dog but she was already adopted. There was a German Shepherd a crate down from me and a Chow in the crate next to me. Both were barking loudly and I didn’t like it. I sort of barked back and then went back to staring at the kitten display that was by me. That was fun to do. I was kind of day dreaming that I was chasing them. Adventures of Clark...Dog Lost and Found
Chapter One
Clark Lost and Found
Hello. My name is Clark and this is the story of how I was lost and then found. I am a lucky dog and I know it.
We think that I was lost in late January or the beginning of February. As I was still growing out of my puppy stage (they think I was about 18 mo old when I was found) I liked to run and chase things. Lets face it, I still like to run and chase things and I don't think I will ever grow out of it. Anyway, it seems as though I chased a rabbit or a squirrel too far and I couldn't find my way home. I sure was scared and lonely. I was hungry and thirsty and wet and very, very cold too. Bet you are wondering how I could be cold since I have a fur coat. Well, they think that I am mostly Doberman with something else mixed in and I have short fur and even though in the winter I grow an extra layer of fur underneath the main coat, I still can get cold. Can you remember a time you were outside with a coat on but you were still cold ? I'll bet you were able to go into the house to get warm and dry. My problem was that I couldn't find my home so I was outside wandering around cold and lost.
I had to eat what I could find out of garbage cans or off the streets and I had to find water that wasn't frozen that I could drink. Sometimes I couldn't find anything to eat or drink and would wander around all day trying to find my way home and find some place warm to stay. It was hard and it was not fun. I wanted to be home and be with my people. And then there were the cars. I had to make sure I didn't get hit by a car. That was hard. I am much smaller than a car and I have dark fur. In the winter the days don't have much sun light and it gets dark so early it is harder for people driving their cars to see me. But some how I managed to not get hit by a car.
One day as I was wandering around trying to find my way home I was walking along the expressway. A nice lady saw me and she stopped to pick me up. I was very skinny and dirty and hungry and thirsty. The nice lady took me where she lived and let me stay with her for a while. She cleaned me up and got me some food and water and I was finally safe and warm and dry. I was very happy. The lady had a little girl and I liked it when she petted me very nicely. The lady tried to find where I lived so she could take me home to my mommy and daddy. I had a collar on but there was no tag that said what my name was or where I lived or who my mommy and daddy were. That is a very important thing. All doggies (kitties too) should have a tag with where they live on it. If I had a tag on the nice lady could have taken me to my house.
The lady and her little girl couldn't find my mommy and daddy. I liked them but they couldn't be my forever mommy and sister. The are lots of groups of very nice people who help lost animals like me find new forever homes. I call them "Pet People" The nice lady knew of a group of these Pet People by her and took me to see them. I must have been quite a sight to see and wondered if they would like me and want to help me. I was so skinny and my coat wasn't shinny and I sort of scared. The place that they took me was very bright and sort of loud. Remember, I was used to being all alone and was just learning to trust people again. There were other dogs in crates and they were barking. I was shaking all over. The Pet People were very good to me and promised the lady and her little girl that they would take good care of me.
The nice lady left me with the Pet People. The Pet People knew I was scared and gave me lots of love and hugs and the best part, treats ! I was sad to see her go but then I met the lady who was going to be my Foster Mommy until I found a forever home. Her name is Mommy Deb. Since I had been wandering the street for a while and was so thin I really needed to see a doctor. Animals go to special doctors called veterinarians because they can't go to people doctors. Many people call these special doctors "vets" for short. I couldn't go home with my new Foster Mommy right away because I needed to stay at the vets for the weekend. He was going to look me over and make sure my ears and heart and paws and teeth and eyes were all okay before Mommy Deb took me to her house. Sometimes animals get icky things inside them that can make them really really sick and it can be spread to other animals. Mommy Deb had other pets so it was very important that I was okay so that her other animals didn't get sick because of me. I went to the vets office that Saturday night and stayed there until Monday afternoon. I was given a bath and had my nails trimmed up and got a really good check up.
Everything had been so new and overwhelming the past few days. The vet and his helpers were all very nice to me but it was sort of scary to be there at night. There were other animals there too but we were not in the same crates. It was dark and I kept hearing strange noises. I just wanted to go to Mommy Deb's and be all safe and warm and loved and meet my new family. Mommy Deb came to get me Monday afternoon to take me home. I was still a little sleepy. The nice vet had to put me to sleep for a little bit of surgery. I was sort of sore too but was going to be okay. That night I was sort of quiet. Mommy Deb has 2 other dogs and 2 cats. It took me a few days to get really comfortable in my new home but we eventually became buddies. One of the biggest things was trying to get me to eat enough to put on some weight and to make sure I was drinking enough water. Mommy Deb tried very hard to make sure I got some super good food to build me back up but sometimes the other dogs sneaked it. Oh well, we are a family now and should share. And I needed to get a new name since I didn't have a tag on no one knew what my name was. Mommy Deb decided on "Clark" She said it was because I was such a handsome boy and reminded her of a handsome movie actor named "Clark Gable" Since I am a dog I have no idea who that is but soon learned to answer to my new name anyway.
Well that is the end of this story. I have been lost and found and am living with my Foster Mommy Deb and my new foster family until I am well enough to find a new forever family. I hope that you will come back and read the rest of my story. I also hope that someday if you see doggie or kitty wandering around looking lost you will help them find their way home or to find a new home. Please be a Friend of Clark (FOC) and help the helpless.
Thanks

Thanks
Clark (Woof, Woof Woof)
